Georgia Bureau of Investigation looking into death of Tift inmate

TIFTON — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into the death of an inmate of Tift County Jail.

The Tift-County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the state department around 7:10 p.m. Sunday after discovering an inmate, identified as Gayle Geiger, 37, dead in her cell.

According to a report from the Bureau of Investigation, Geiger was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, the investigation is active and ongoing. An autopsy has been scheduled Wednesday, to be conducted in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Macon Crime Lab.
