U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Zane E. Moorman, outgoing sergeant major, II Marine Expeditionary Force Support Battalion, II MEF Information Group, delivers a speech during a relief and appointment ceremony at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Feb. 14.

“Over the last two years, I’ve had the privilege to watch and witness them [II MSB Marines] provide unsupported, supported, by with and through, combat support,” said Moorman, a native of Tifton. “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s real simple bottom line up front – these Marines enable the II MEF to fight. I’m thankful for so many people in the crowd as I look around, who have taught me along the way.”

A relief and appointment ceremony is a military tradition that signifies all responsibilities and authorities being transferred between the old and new senior enlisted leader of the command. Moorman is leaving II MEF Information Group to become sergeant major of Marine Medium Tiltrotor 365, which is based at Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C.
