Another hat trick for Marin in Tift win over Lowndes

VALDOSTA — The Tift County Blue Devils improved to 2-0 in Region 1-7A Tuesday with a big win at Lowndes.

The Devils defeated Lowndes, 7-1, their netting four in the first half.

Officials stats credit Manny Marin with a hat trick, giving him 20 goals on the season. Marin has four hat tricks in 2022, three in his last four matches.

Alex Cardoso connected on two goals. Jonathan Salazar and Anthony Palomares scored the other two. Rajae Mickins provided two assists and Marin and Salazar had one each.

Mike Taylor earned the win in goal. Tift’s defense only allowed Lowndes four shots.

Marin has not just been outstanding for Tift in 2022. Nationally, Marin is tied for 7th for most goals scored this spring, according to stats teams input on MaxPreps. His 48 points — Marin has eight assists — are 5th.

Lowndes earned a split Tuesday, defeating the Lady Devils 8-1.

Both the Blue Devils and Lady Devils are scheduled to head to Camden County Friday night for more Region 1-7A contests.

Camden’s boys have defeated Lowndes, 6-5, this year. In region action, their girls have a 6-0 win over Colquitt.

Tift’s next home matches will be March 18 against Thomas County Central. This will be Senior Night for the Blue Devils and Lady Devils.
