Hanna captures title in Junior Invitational

TIFTON — Evan Hanna was the overall winner in the third annual Georgia Turf and Tractor/Springhill Country Club Junior Invitational was held Oct. 16-17 at the club’s course. Hanna captured the overall title and 15-16-year old division with a two-day total of 145 besting Kyle Cobb of Tallahassee who finished the tournament at 150.
To win the title, Hanna birdied four of the last seven holes on the second day of competition. Thomas Modlin of Green Cove Springs, Fla. was third and Jarut Padungsirseth of Evans was fourth.
Over 70 players from four states participated in the event. Those players were divided into seven divisions with the players ranging in age from 7-18.
The 10-under age group was divided into three flights consisting of two boys and one girls division.
The instructional division was led by Corey Carlson of Middleburg, Fla, who shot a two-day total of 96. Carlson was five shots back on day one, but came back to get the win. Ben Sammons of Lyons was second, John Stackhouse was third and Jackson Warnock was fourth.
In the competitive division, Meechai Padungsirseth of Evans took the title with a two-day total of 77. Tifton’s Jake Flynt shot a 84 to take second, while Jake Minchew of Waycross was third and Eli Crumley of Cleveland was fourth.
The 10-under girls title was won by Mariah Stackhouse, who shot an 83 over the two days. Alpharetta’s Amira Alexander was second, Taylor Ramsey of Augusta was third and her sister, Ashlan Ramsey, was fourth.
Playing from a modified set of men’s tees and playing 18 holes each day, Rochelle’s John Wilson Gordon shot a two-day total of 155 to capture the 11-12 year old title. He was followed by Will Jones of Rome in second. Robert Robertson of Evans was third and Ocilla’s Matt Johns was fourth.
The 13-14 year olds played from the men’s white tees. Evans’ Nam Padungsirseth won the event with a two-day total of 146. Warren Hess of Crawfordville, Fla. was second, Clarke Hendrick of Moultrie was third and Taylor Floyd of Macon was fourth. Hap Kaufold of Vidalia took the crown in the 17-18 division, posting a two-day total of 157. He was followed by Elijah Peebles of Swainsboro in second.
