The first Red, White and Blue Devils community service project is a success, with a completed new porch.

TIFTON — Tift County football players are on a quest to be more than athletes competing on Friday nights in the fall.

Service to the community has become a vital part of the Blue Devils program and, recently, they had the opportunity to help someone in their own community.

On Feb. 26, several players took part in the initial Red, White and Blue Devils service project. The squad partnered with CrossView Baptist Church to build a new porch for Eva Puffer. A military veteran, Puffer served as an Ammunition Specialist (E-4) in the U.S. Army.

The project took around four hours for the Tift players to complete. As part of the Trident True program, emphasizing mind, body, heart and soul, players are expected to earn at least 30 community service hours. Dedication to this part of the program will earn them tridents for their helmets.

Helping to fund this service project were ticket sales proceeds from the Appling County Red, White & Blue Devils game.
