MOULTRIE — Tift County celebrated a soccer sweep Friday night, but the Blue Devils will have to wait a little longer to celebrate more.

The Lady Devils won 3-1, their sixth victory of the season and second in Region 1-7A. The Blue Devils edged Colquitt, 2-1.

The Devils are now 4-0 Region 1-7A, but cannot quite clinch the title yet. Head coach Bobby Earls said Camden County — whom Tift has not seen yet — can finish with four wins as well, plus have a sweep over his squad. Tift will finally go to Camden April 5 before wrapping the regular season with the Wildcats at home on April 8.

Tift Lady Devils head coach Sherri Constable said goals came from Laura Kate Wright, Kim Sanchez and Yareli Espinoza.

“Diana (Reducindo) played great in goal,” she said.

The Lady Devils can finish no worse than third in the conference, but are aiming for even better. “We are looking forward to playing Camden,” said Constable. “The girls believe we can win both games.”

Earls said the Devils were hoping for a shutout, “but our defense played great,” he said. “They withstood pressure all night.”

“We bent once but never broke.” He said he was very proud of the defense and of keeper Mike Taylor.

Jonathan Salazar and Alex Cardoso contributed goals. Salazar’s was a free kick, which Earls said he was able to bend around the Packers’ wall and into the top corner. Cardoso’s goal was on a penalty kick.

Tift spends the next week on spring break, with no matches scheduled until the final two against Camden.
