Tennis teams earn 2nd at Macon tournament

TIFTON — It was a wonderful end of the week for Tift County’s high school tennis teams with both placing second at the Middle Georgia Invitational hosted by First Presbyterian Day.
The Lady Devils fell 3-2 to Bleckley County before shutting out West Laurens, 5-0. They won 4-1 over Johnson County before falling 5-0 to Statesboro in the championship. The Blue Devils had 4-1 wins over Bleckley and West Laurens. They won 5-0 over Johnson, before falling to host FPD 5-0 in their finale.
Abby Lupo and Sheppard Sutton won three singles matches in the tournament. The doubles teams of Madison Garner and Perrin Turner and Kate Carpenter and Anna Lupo both won twice.
Monday, Tift County teams won a double victory over Thomas County Central. Neither surrendered a match and the Yellow Jackets won only one set out of 21 played.
The Lady Devils won a 5-0 score with Sheppard, Abby Lupo, Anna Lupo/Turner and Carpenter/Kenyaria Morrow all won in straight sets. Riley Griffin needed a third to secure her win.
Tift’s Devils were even stingier. TCC had three set victories total. Patel and Ethan Van Orman were 6-0, 6-0 winners. Elijah Hellman, Matt Layfield/Seth Denham and Jack Medina/Adam Beck all gave up a single set.
