CHULA — Tiftarea Academy completed its Region 3-3A schedule Friday night, winning 3-0 over visiting Terrell Academy a few days after falling in Dawson.

The Panthers, who end the regular season with non-region games, split the series with Terrell. That’s something they’ve done all season. Three other teams are in Tiftarea’s region and they divided games with all of them for a 4-4 mark.

Robert Garner dominated Terrell Friday, striking out 13 in a complete game victory, while scattering five hits. Head coach Chance Benson could not single this performance out for its domination, as he said it is how Garner has pitched all season.

Garner struck out the side in the second and the seventh. He had two strikeouts in the first, fourth and fifth.

Though the Panthers were never in danger, they never could quite bust it open for themselves. Their final score was via a skinny run in the second, third and fourth frames.

Otherwise, whenever Eagles hurlers Kyle Hall and Brody Cowart were in trouble, the defense came up with a play to bail them out.

Dawson Butler hit a ground-rule double to left field to open the second for the home side. He moved up a base on a groundout, then scored when Reed Jackson snuck a single past third.

One inning later, after Jackson Parrish provided the initial spark, it was Landon Clark who got the second run. Parrish was caught in a rundown on a Winston Lamb grounder and though Parrish was tagged out, Lamb had enough time to scoot into second. Clark courtesy ran from there.

Garner to left to score Clark for a 2-0 lead.

One inning later, Reed Jackson turned a one-out walk into a run, coming around when Jackson Gray’s ground ball forced a wild throw.

William Garner and Gray also had doubles during the game, though neither scored.

Robert Garner was not a one-man show on defense. In center, Parrish flashed the leather to rob Terrell on a sliding catch in the third.
